The South-West Indian state of Karnataka’s headquarters, Udupi district is now under spotlight of severe water shortage issues. This water shortage issue has been faced since last summer and has created serious troubles for the local people leading to increased annoyance and depression as the main supply has not been able to provide water. The municipal corporation of the city has not able to provide water and the strength has been low enough not to provide consistent flow even on the alternate days.

The city’s municipal authority, CMC is responsible to provide 24 hours of constant water supply to the general public in and around Udupi district. Apart from the general public, it has to be provided to Panchayats on a regular stream as well.

The main reason as quoted by the local population seems to be with dredging works which were not undertaken from the nearby Baje Dam. This was due to a court order from Dr. T Reju who is the Deputy Commissioner for the region. Since then, no efforts have been done to convince Mr. Reju and all the matters stuck up. Finally, with the change in weather and rain falls, the issue’s intensity fell. But as soon as the reserves kept declining, the same issue has gained frustration from the local population again.
